Unlike many wine regions, the Swan Valley isn't built around a single style of wine.

Its warm Mediterranean climate has allowed winemakers to produce a remarkably diverse range of varieties, while its long history has helped shape a culture where hospitality is just as important as the wine itself.

Some visitors arrive looking for iconic estates.

Others enjoy discovering small family-owned cellar doors tucked away behind the vineyards.

Both experiences are part of what makes the Swan Valley special.

One of Western Australia's best-known wineries, Sandalford blends heritage, hospitality and award-winning wines into a complete visitor experience.

When friends visit Perth for the first time, Sandalford is almost always my first stop.

Upper Reach captures everything many people love about boutique wineries—personal service, outstanding views and wines produced on the estate itself.

I often recommend Upper Reach to friends because it captures the relaxed atmosphere that first made me fall in love with the Swan Valley.

Sittella has built an excellent reputation for sparkling wines and elegant dining in one of the Valley's most peaceful settings.

Established in 1829, Olive Farm is woven into the history of Australian winemaking and continues to welcome visitors with a broad tasting selection.

For many locals, John Kosovich represents the authentic heart of the Swan Valley. It's the sort of place where stories are shared as readily as the wine.

Many visitors try to squeeze six or seven wineries into one day.

We recommend the opposite.

Choose three or four.

Spend time talking with the people behind the cellar door.

The conversations often become the highlight of the day.

If I had just one afternoon to introduce someone to the Swan Valley, I'd probably choose Upper Reach Winery.

Not because it's necessarily the "best" winery, but because every visit reminds me what makes the Swan Valley so special: relaxed hospitality, outstanding wines and genuine conversations.

Sometimes the places you remember most aren't the biggest—they're the ones that make you feel welcome.
